A food tracker without calorie counting: how BiteLite compares
Last checked: 5 October 2026
BiteLite is a food tracker for Android and iPhone that replaces calorie counting with food groups. You tap the portions of nine groups you ate (water, fruit, vegetables, grains, legumes, fish and meat, dairy, oils and fats, sweets) and see them fill up against a daily plan. It suits people who find calorie apps too much work, and people who have already lost weight and want to keep it off with a light daily check instead of exact numbers. Tracking is free; Premium is optional at 1.99 € a month or 29.99 € once for Lifetime.
- What you log

Who BiteLite is for
- People tired of counting. You want to eat more balanced, but weighing food and looking up calorie values every day is the reason you stopped using your last app.
- People in the maintenance phase. You have reached a weight you are happy with and want a light daily check that keeps your eating pattern in view, without going back to a strict diet.
- People who want a habit, not a project. A few taps a day, a calendar heatmap and a streak show whether the week was balanced.
Who it is not for
If you need exact calories or macros, for example for competitive sport or a diet prescribed by a doctor, a calorie counter is the better tool. BiteLite is a wellbeing app, not a medical device, and does not replace medical or dietary advice.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an app to track what I eat without counting calories?
Yes. BiteLite tracks food groups instead of calories: you tap the portions of water, fruit, vegetables, grains, legumes, fish and meat, dairy, oils and fats and sweets you ate, and a daily plan shows how balanced the day was. You never enter calories or weigh food. It runs on Android and iPhone and the core tracking is free.
What is a simple alternative to calorie counter apps like MyFitnessPal, Yazio or Lifesum?
If counting calories every day feels like too much effort, a food-group tracker is the lighter option. BiteLite needs one tap per portion and shows balance across nine food groups instead of a calorie total. If you need exact calories or macros, a calorie counter remains the right tool.
Can I use BiteLite to maintain my weight after a diet?
BiteLite is built for a steady, balanced eating pattern rather than a diet. That fits the maintenance phase: you keep an eye on balance without counting. An optional weight log shows your entries with a smoothed trend line. BiteLite sets no target weight and calculates no BMI.
How does food-group tracking work in BiteLite?
You pick a daily plan, for example the balanced standard plan or one you build yourself, which sets how many portions of each group suit you. During the day you tap what you eat. Whole dishes such as a curry or a muesli add all their portions with one tap. A calendar heatmap, streaks and a monthly recap show your consistency.
Do I have to weigh my food?
No. BiteLite works with portions per food group, from empty to half to full. Approximate is fine, because the goal is balance over the day and week, not an exact number.
Is BiteLite free?
Yes. Everything needed for daily tracking is free: tapping food groups, own dishes, standard plans plus two of your own, the calendar heatmap, streaks, monthly recap, basic insights, the widget and daily notes. BiteLite shows no ads.
How much does BiteLite Premium cost?
1.99 € a month (cancel any time, 15 tokens per month) or 29.99 € once for Lifetime Premium including 400 tokens. Prices apply in the euro zone including VAT and are the same in the App Store and Google Play.
Can BiteLite log a meal from a photo?
Yes. You photograph your meal and the AI estimates the portions of all nine groups; you can save the result as your own dish. Typed text and voice work as well. Each AI analysis uses one token; new accounts start with 10 free tokens.
Which platforms and languages does BiteLite support?
Android via Google Play and iPhone via the App Store. The app is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Turkish, Portuguese, Italian and Indonesian.
Is BiteLite a medical app?
No. BiteLite is an app for wellbeing and balanced eating. It is not a medical device and does not replace medical or dietary advice. For medical diets, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian.
Try it
Free on Android and iPhone. No calorie counting needed.
